Deerfield High School Junior to Represent Illinois in National Chess Tourney

Congratulations for Deerfield High School junior Jonathan Kogen, who will represent the state at the National Denker Tournament in Madison, Wis. this summer.

Deerfield High School junior Jonathan Kogen won the Illinois Denker Qualifier chess tournament with a 5-0 score on Feb 24. Only the top high school chess players are invited to the tournament.

Kogen will next represent Illinois at the prestigious National Denker Tournament of High School Champions in Madison, Wis., in July.

Kogen is a National Master and the advanced instructor for the award-winning Indian Trail chess team of the Illinois Chess Association's scholastic chess program in District 112 in Highland Park. Kogen is also a long-time member of the state’s elite Warren Junior Scholars Program.

"Those of you who know Jonathan know that he is a fine and modest young man. We are thrilled that he is an anchor of our Highland Park program, and we cannot be more proud of him," said Jerry Neugarten, of the District 112 Chess Committee.
