DHS Bands Play Concert Wednesday

DHS BANDS PRESENT ANNUAL FALL CONCERT ON NOVEMBER 6 

The Deerfield High School Bands will present their annual Fall Concert on Wednesday, November 6 at 7:30 pm in the high school auditorium. Featured will be the Concert Band, Symphonic Band, and Wind Ensemble performing traditional band music. Selections will include marches from Europe, the music of British composer Gustav Holst, and a hauntingly beautiful work by Eric Whitacre titled October. The Jazz Band will close the concert with their own unique renditions of classic swing, bossa nova, and funk tunes by Thelonious Monk and others. Admission is free and the public is invited to join us for an exciting night of music.

DIVERSITY FAMILY PARTNERSHIP COLLEGE AND CAREER MEETING 

The Diversity Family Partnership is meeting on Tuesday, November 5th from 7:00-8:30 pm in the College and Career Resource Center (I100) at Deerfield High School.   The Diversity Family Partnership is an opportunity for DHS staff members, students and parents/guardians of students of color to work together to increase student achievement and ensure more equitable practices in school. For our November meeting, network with Diversity Family Partnership members (parents/guardians, students, staff members) and learn about college, scholarships, and summer programs for non-majority students. SPECIAL EDUCATION DEPARTMENT OFFERS PROGRAM FOR 8th GRADE STUDENTS AND PARENTS/GUARDIANS AHEAD OF TRANSITION TO DHS 

Although the school year has just started, DHS is already thinking about next year and your student’s transition to Deerfield High School. We invite students with IEPs and their parents/guardians to attend a program at Deerfield High School on Wednesday, November 6, 2013 from 7:00 – 8:00 pm in room E116. Students will get a tour and parents will have the chance to learn about the continuum of special education services at DHS. All will have a chance to ask questions of current DHS students during a panel. We look forward to meeting you and your students. 

POST-HIGH SCHOOL PLANNING WORKSHIP FOR DHS JUNIORS AND PARENTS/GUARDIANS 

Beth Gilfillan and Kristen Thorburn, DHS College Counselors, will be hosting the annual “Junior Student and Parent/Guardian Post-High School Planning Workshop” on Wednesday, November 13 from 7:00 – 8:00 pm in the DHS auditorium. 

Important information that will be shared includes: college search process and tips, senior year course considerations, meeting with the college counselor, college visits, and testing as well as an overview of the resources and programs available through the CCRC during the junior and senior years.
