DHS Class of 2012 Graduates Tuesday

Honors will be given out at Ravinia Park ceremony.

Members of the class of 2012 will graduate at 5 p.m. today at Ravinia Park.

The ceremony will begin as Class Marshals Daniel Dubin and first lead the faculty and then their class into the Ravinia Pavilion, according to Assistant Principal Ken Williams.

After a greeting from Township High School District 113 Superintendent George Fornero, the assembled seniors, family and friends will hear the graduation address from Hannah Goldstein. After that, selected students will give the class gift and Principal Audris Griffith will present the graduating seniors for their diplomas.

After the students receive their diplomas, honors will be given to the valedictorian, salutatorian and the Deerfield Scholars. According to Williams, there could be more than one person at the top of the class as valedictorian or in the salutatorian position. When grade point averages are hundredths of a point apart, more than one person can be honored.

Approximately ten percent of the class will receive one of the three academic honors, according to Williams.

After the academic recognition, the John F. Kennedy Medal of Honor will be presented. “It goes to the student who has overcome difficult circumstances,” Williams said.

Patch will have an extensive photo gallery and other coverage Wednesday morning.
