DHS Grad Continues to be a Leader

Rachel Blitz, a 2009 graduate of Deerfield High School, has proven to be a leader at her university, too.

Rachel Blitz, of Riverwoods, a 2009 Deerfield High School graduate who earned the school's Grand Master of Sport Award, has her feet firmly planted on the path to success with her latest honor.

Blitz, daughter of Alan and Caron Blitz, has been named the recipient of Bryant University’s (Smithfield, RI) top leadership honor for a female athlete, The Dr. William T. O’Hara Leadership Award.

A senior on the Division 1 field hockey team, Blitz was a leader on and off the field for the Bulldogs all four years. The dedicated athlete played in all 75 games over her career.

Blitz, a business major, is a leader on campus as well, serving as the president of the Bryant University Hillel. In addition, she is a Dean's List student and served on the Senior Advisory Council where she worked directly with Bryant President Ronald K. Machtley.

"Leading comes naturally to Blitz and we all admire how she does it with quiet ease and her wicked dry humor," said Shaunessy Saucier, Bryant Head Field Hockey Coach. "I know she will be successful as she begins her career because she has already demonstrated her ability to balance a demanding schedule of academics, sports, internships and involvement in several community organizations."

After graduating Deerfield High School, where she served on the Student Council, Blitz interned at a leading market research firm, Northwestern University’s athletics, and the Chicago Sky women’s WNBA basketball team. She is in the process of interviewing for marketing communications and sports marketing positions in Boston or Chicago.
