DHS Hoops Teams Split With Spartans

Warrior girls extend winning streak to four against Glenbrook North while boys fall to highly regarded squad.

Girls’ Basketball 

The Final Score:        Deerfield 36, Glenbrook North 29

Warriors Star Performer:    Haley Greer poured in 12 points as well as stealing the ball twice, grabbing a rebound and dishing out an assist.

Other Notable Warrior Performances:       Margot Sylvan added eight points and a pair of rebounds while Kathryn Hoffman chipped in seven tallies and stole the ball twice. Sarah Ginn hauled down six rebounds and had three steals as well as three points while Elizabeth Pavalon grabbed five boards and had a pair of steals.

Who’s Next:   The Warriors entertain Evanston at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday. 

The Bottom Line:      After the teams played to a 10-10 tie after one quarter, the Warriors outscored Glenbrook North 12-2 in the second period to take a 22-12 lead into the intermission. Both teams scored little in the third quarter as Deerfield maintained a 28-16 edge heading into the final stanza. The Warriors then held off a Spartan charge in the fourth period. Deerfield is now 5-4 for the season and 3-0 in the Central Suburban League North Division. 

Boys’ Basketball 

The Final Score:        Glenbrook North 59, Deerfield 37 

Warriors Star Performer:    Eric Porter scored 11 points on 50 percent shooting from the field as well as adding a rebound, a steal and a deflection.

Other Notable Warrior Performances:       Michael Alfieri added eight points and three rebounds. Alexander Glantz and Jonathan Heiser chipped in six points each. Glantz dished out a pair of assists and brought down three rebounds while Heiser had a steal. 

Who’s Next:   The Warriors travel to Wheeling at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. 

The Bottom Line:      Glenbrook North took command early streaking to a 24-6 lead at the end of the first quarter. Deerfield played the Spartans nearly even the rest of the way. The Warriors are now 3-4 for the season and 0-2 in the Central Suburban League North Division.
