DHS Ranked State's 7th Best School

Nearby Highland Park and New Trier High Schools rang in at No. 12 and No. 13, respectively.

Deerfield High School came in 7th place among Illinois high schools in this year's ranking from U.S. News & World Report. The list was released as part of the Best High School rankings, now in its fourth edition, according to the Huffington Post.

The rankings were drawn from a pool of 22,000 public high schools in 49 states as well as the District of Columbia, and methodology included test scores, state assessments and college-level coursework, such as AP or IB programs.

For student/teacher ratio, Deerfield scored 18:1. For college readiness, the report noted that DHS is above the Illinois average, with 58 percent percent of students taking AP tests and 55 percent passing those tests.

In the areas of math and reading, Deerfield students score better than 90 percent.

In Illinois, Northside College Preparatory High School took the top spot, followed by Walter Payton College Preparatory High School and Jones College Prep. Nearby Stevenson High School was ranked No. 6; Highland Park was ranked No. 12; New Trier High School was ranked No. 13; Lake Forest High School was ranked No. 15 and Evanston Township High School was ranked No. 17.
