District 109 Increases Staff for 2013-14

The school board recently approved 18.5 additional certified staff positions for the new school year.

A new block scheduling system for its middle schools has resulted in Deerfield Public Schools District 109 increasing its certified teaching staff by 18.5 positions for the 2013-14 school year, according to the district.

The additional staff is primarily for the middle schools and special education.

In the fall, teachers will be grouped in teams sharing a core group of students, reported the Chicago Tribune. The union agreed to the new structure during the last contract negotiations.
