DHS To Unveil Master Plan This Month

After over a year of brainstorming with and engagement seeking from the community, District 113 is almost ready to unveil what it has been working on.

District 113 architects will present their Long Range Facility Master Plan for Deerfield and Highland Park High Schools at two final Community Engagement Meetings in November. The first will be held Nov. 27 at 7 p.m. and the second will be held Nov. 28 at 10 a.m. Both will be in the HPHS auditorium.

The architects will present recommendations for facilities and cost estimates, according to an email sent out by the distrct on Monday.

Back in September, District 113 Board Member Marjie Sandlow commended the district for attempting to get so much community input as the master plan was being assembled.

"Community members gives a lot of credibility to the process," Sandlow said. "Hopefully the community will see that."

Some residents don't believe the district has been working as cooperatively with the community as it should. At September's meeting, Rose and Lawrence Feder expressed concern that the district has refused to disclose the raw data from a marketing survey it conducted earlier this year.

"The survey results should be released," Rose Feder said.

Others, like David Greenberg, who opposed the district's last renovations referendum in 2011, thinks the district is on the right track this time around.

"This is what we should have done," Greenberg said about the district's outreach to residents for involvement in the plan. "This is everything we've been asking for… an in-depth analysis of the costs."
