Four Warrior Teams Earn Wins

Soccer, softball, volleyball and tennis squads win games. Girls' water polo team falls in Sectional.

Soccer

Warriors Star Performers:  scored two goals while Leah Heller contributed three assists. Trishie Schweinfurth chipped in a goal and an assist. Sarah Ginn had three saves to record her third shutout of the season in goal.

Other Notable Warrior Performances:       JoElla Guagliardo and Savannah Stanaszek tallied Deerfield’s other goals while Kerry Glass and Amanda Imyak provided assists.

Who’s Next:   The Warriors open post season play at 5:30 p.m. May 16 when they host Chicago’s Von Steuben in their own Regional. 

The Bottom Line:      Deerfield’s seniors were honored before the game and they took the lead as Kellow put the Warriors on the board when the game was only seven minutes old as she scored on an assist from Heller. Three minutes later Kellow found the net again, this time with help from Heller and Glass. Scores by Schweinfurth and Guagliardo gave Deerfield a 4-0 halftime lead and control of the game. The victory gave Deerfield an undefeated home season with a 9-3-8 mark for the season. 

Volleyball 

The Final Score:        Deerfield defeated Niles North, 25-15, 25-10. 

Warriors Star Performers:  Andrew Hector spiked the ball 11 times for kills and blocked two shots while Scott Laner dished out 18 assists and had a pair of digs.

Other Notable Warrior Performances:       Andrew Devendorf notched seven kills and four digs while Matthew Dlugie had six kills and a block. John Harlan (five kills, three digs), Adam Nadler (five kills, five digs), Kenison Ready (four kills and a block), Jordan Fine (nine assists and two digs) and Ross Lehrman (nine digs) made contributions.

Who’s Next:   The Warriors entertain Highland Park at 6 p.m. Thursday. 

The Bottom Line:      As the Warriors continue to win far more often than they lose, Coach Eugene Chung is pleased with their progress. “The guys are starting to play better and they're making bigger commitments on the defensive side of things,” he said. It would appear that our best is yet to come.” 

Softball 

The Final Score:        Deerfield 8, Highland Park 4 

Warriors Star Performers:  Zoey Fishman pitched a complete game limiting the Giants to five hits with four strike outs and no walks. Nicki Chamberlain-Simon, Emily Shanker and Emily Shanker provided offensive punch with three RBI and five hits between them.

Other Notable Warrior Performances:       Dana Mercola, Alleghra Hoffman and Amanda Marks each got a hit for Deerfield.

Who’s Next:   The Warriors entertain Lakes at 4:45 p.m. today. 

The Bottom Line:      Deerfield scored two runs in the first and another in the third but broke the game open with a five run fifth inning to secure the victory. Before the game, the Warriors three seniors—Chamberlain-Simon, Shanker and Megan Buranosky—were honored. 

Tennis 

The Final Score:        Deerfield 7, Oak Park-River Forest 3 

Warriors Star Performers:  Singles winners for Deerfield were , Toby Ma and a combination of Jordan Miller and Ben Kasbeer. Winning their doubles matches were the tandems of Jack Kasbeer and Andrew Pekin (No. 1), Zach Keeshin and Lee Ratner (No. 4), Jared Gupta and Harry Skaletskly (No. 6) along with Jordan Hersh and Jeffrey Zazove (No. 7).

Who’s Next:   The Warriors compete in the Central Suburban League Meet Friday and Saturday at Highland Park. 

Girls’ Water Polo 

The Final Score:        Palatine 14, Deerfield-Highland Park 4. 

Warriors Star Performer:    Sophie Leib scored three of Deerfield’s four goals.

Who’s Next:   The Warriors season ended with the Sectional loss.
