Boys’ Basketball

The Final Score:        Highland Park 49, Deerfield 31

Giants Star Performers:       Sam Shrago scored 13 points while David Sachs chipped in 12 tallies along with four assists and a pair of steals.

 Warriors Star Performer:    Eric Porter poured in eight points and contributed an assist, a rebound and a steal.

Other Notable Giant Performance:             Brandon Krawitz added nine points, grabbed five rebounds and dished out two assists.

Other Notable Warrior Performances:       Michael Alfieri hauled down seven rebounds and added four points. Patrick Burns had four rebounds and two assists.

Who’s Next:   The Warriors play against Wheeling at 1:45 p.m. Wednesday in the Wheeling Hardwood Classic. The Giants compete in the Hinsdale Holiday Tournament at 1:15 Wednesday against Stagg. 

The Bottom Line:      Highland Park dominated the game in the second and third quarters to take control. After the teams played to a 7-7 tie at the end of the first quarter, the Giants blanked the Warriors, 12-0, in the second period to take a 19-7 lead into intermission. Highland Park continued to pour it on with 19 third quarter points to Deerfield’s 11. The Warriors are now 5-5 for the season and 1-3 in the Central Suburban League North Division. Highland Park is 2-2 in conference play and 5-6 overall. 

Girls’ Basketball

The Final Score:         Highland Park 66, Deerfield 34

Giants Star Performers:       Lena Munzer was on fire with 31 points

 Warriors Star Performers:    Haley Greer scored eight points and had both a rebound and a steal. Emily Karkazis added five points along with six rebounds and two steals.

Other Notable Giant Performances:            Lizzy LoGrande chipped in 14 points and Tina Bernardi added 10.

Other Notable Warrior Performances:       Margot Sylvan scored six points to go with a rebound and a steal. Sarah Ginn had four rebounds, two points and a steal while Liz Pavalon grabbed five rebounds

Who’s Next:   The Warriors entertain Lake Forest at 7:30 p.m. Thursday. The Giants travel to Wheeling at 7:30 p.m. Thursday. 

The Bottom Line:      In a battle for first place in the Central Suburban League North Division, the undefeated Giants took command in the opening quarter outscoring Deerfield, 19-4, and continued the pressure in the second period to take a 38-12 halftime lead. Highland Park is now 8-6 for the season and 5-0 in league play. The Warriors fell to 5-7 for the year and 3-2 in the conference.
