Soccer squad blanks University while girls' water polo unit falls to New Trier.

Warriors Star Performers:  Devon Gold won the triple jump with a school record of 35-5.5 and took third in the high jump. Other Deerfield champions were Amanda Abel (100-meter hurdles), Haley Johnson (pole vault), Diedre Suri (1,600) and Katie McIntyre (discus).

Other Notable Warrior Performances:       placed second in the 100 hurdles and third in the pole vault. Other Deerfield athletes earning second place honors were Grace Joseph (100), Hadley Lloyd (800) and Haley Dorfman (high jump). Elizabeth Villano grabbed third in the 3,200.

Who’s Next:   The Warriors compete in the Niles West Sectional at 3 p.m. Thursday. 

The Bottom Line:      Though Coach Jeff Beaumont was nervous heading into the meet, when it was over he felt the Warriors could have done no better. “We had just about a perfect meet,” he said.  “We had so many cases of girls stepping up and performing beyond any expectations. Throughout the season we would see flashes of our potential, but we never really put it all together (until now).”

The Final Score:        Deerfield 5, University 0 

Warriors Star Performers:  scored a pair of goals while Amanda Imyak added both a goal and an assist.

Other Notable Warrior Performances:       Hannah Rosin and JoElla Guagliardo chipped in a goal each with assists coming from Jill Noeh and Trishie Schweinfurth. Sarah Ginn earned her first varsity shutout in goal with three saves.

Who’s Next:   The Warriors entertain Chicago’s Von Steuben at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday in the opening round of the Deerfield Regional. 

The Bottom Line:      Deerfield improved its record to 8-3-8 in the opening round of the Glenbrook Cup. The Warriors wasted little time taking a lead with Kellow’s goal in the 10th minute. Imyak made it 2-0 three minutes later and Rosin’s unassisted goal in the 20th minute put Deerfield in command. 

Girls’ Water Polo 

The Final Score:        New Trier 14, Deerfield-Highland Park 4. 

Warrior-Giants Star Performers:    Melissa Barraza and Sophie Lieb scored each had two goals.  

Who’s Next:   The Warrior Giants meet Palatine at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Palatine Sectional.
