Gold Takes 2nd in State Indoor Meet

Deerfield High School runner runs best Warrior 1,600 meters in 15 years.

With the best Warrior 1,600-meter time in 15 years, Deerfield High School's Alex Gold finished second in the state’s premier indoor event recently in Bloomington.

Running the last 200 meters in 30 seconds, Gold secured his runner up medal and came close to catching champion Jamison Dole in the Top Times Invitational, according to Coach Jeremy Kauffman.

“This meet has become a defacto indoor state meet that is by invite only and has many of the state’s best athletes competing,” Kauffman said. .

Gold’s performance also put him on the top-ten list of all Warriors who have ever run the race. “If one focuses on getting on our top 10 in their time at Deerfield than state medals happen,” Kauffman said. Gold has already earned all state honors in cross country.
