Gold Wins on Track, Basketball Team Falls on Court

Deerfield High School track team gets solid performances against elite competition. Evanston edges boys' basketball team.

Warriors Star Performers:    Eric Porter scored 14 points and dished out an assist while Michael Alfieri added 12 points, nine rebounds, two assists and a pair of steals.

Who’s Next:   The Warriors meet McHenry at 6 p.m. Monday in the opening round of the Deerfield Regional.

The Bottom Line:     The game remained close throughout as the Wildkits took a 12-8 lead at the end of the first quarter and Deerfield battled back to tie the score at 20 all by halftime. Evanston built a two point lead by the end of the third quarter, 31-29, and added two points to that edge in the fourth.

Boys’ Track

Feb. 16  

The Final Score:         Deerfield finished fifth out of six teams in an elite field, according to Coach Jeremy Kauffman.

Warriors Star Performers:    Alex Gold won the 1660 run while Dominick Dibenedetto took second in the shot put and Brett Freedberg did the same in the pole vault.

Other Notable Warrior Performance:      Matt Gibson placed third in the pole vault with Aaron Horwitz fourth. Conor Oriot added a fourth place finish in the long jump while fifth spots went to Shai Farhi in the 1660 and Jack Sherman in the triple jump.

Who’s Next:   The Warriors compete at the Maine East Invitational at 8 a.m. March 2.
