Guru, Ambrose, Ballis Win Spelling Bees

Kipling contest goes into overtime.

eighth grader Pranav Guru, fifth grade student Xander Ambrose and Tess Ballis, a fourth grader, won their schools’ Spelling Bees Friday and Monday and will advance to Sectional competition Feb. 22 at .

Guru outlasted defending champion Ben Edelstein, also an eighth grader, in the 12th round Monday.

At Walden, Emily Han joined Ambrose in the winner’s circle by winning the fourth grade contest. Ambrose was the fourth grade champ last year.

The Kipling contest began Friday but continued into Monday before Ballis outlasted her fellow students.
