Highland Park Unable to Pull Ahead of Deerfield in Varsity Basketball

Leading consistently by a few points each period, Deerfield High School's varsity boys basketball team beat Highland Park 56 to 48 on Friday.

DHS ended the first period leading 16 to 13, and stayed ahead of the Giants for the remainder of the game. Though the scoring remained close throughout the second two periods, with Highland Park only scoring one point less than the Warriors in periods two and three, the team never pulled ahead.

Deerfield's stand-out players include Eric Porter, who scored 12 points and made three assists. Michael Alfieri also did a stellar job, scoring 16 points for the Warriors. Deerfield's Sam Kuznetsky scored 11 points.

Highland Park's San Iden led the Giants with nine points.

Deerfield finishes 3-6 in the conference and 10-13 overall. The team's next game is on Feb. 15 at 7:30 p.m. at Deerfield against Niles North. Highland Park finishes 4-5 in the conference and 11-13 overall. The team plays Maine West on Feb. 15 at Highland Park at 7:30 p.m.
