Hoop Victory: Boys, Girls Top Maine East

Stitcher stars as gymnasts fall to Lake Forest.

Boys’ Basketball

Who’s Next:   The Warriors meet Lake Park at 9 a.m. Dec. 27 at the Hardwood Classic in Wheeling. 

The Bottom Line:      Deerfield went on a 16-1 run in the third quarter to take control of the game. Alfieri had 12 of his 20 points during that stretch as Watts found him in between Maine East defenders with sharp passing for a number of his nine assists. The Warriors evened their season record at 4-4 and are 2-1 in the Central Suburban League North. 

Girls’ Basketball 

Dec. 16 

The Final Score:        Deerfield 50, Maine East 35 

Warriors Star Performer:    led Deerfield with 21 points.

Other Notable Warrior Performances:       contributed nine points and chipped in six. 

Who’s Next:   The Warriors play Carmel at 3 p.m. today in the Blue Devil Classic in Gurnee. They continue tourney play at 6 p.m. Monday against Grayslake Central and 7:30 p.m. Tuesday when they meet Lake Forest for the second time this season. 

The Bottom Line:      Deerfield jumped on Maine East early taking a 22-6 first quarter lead and never looking back holding a 33-20 halftime edge. 

Gymnastics 

Dec. 16 

The Final Score:        Lake Forest 142.65, Deerfield 132.75 

Warriors Star Performer:    led Deerfield winning the balance beam (9.3), placing second in vault (9.4), taking third in floor exercise (9.25) and finishing fourth in the all around competition with a 9.05 average.

Who’s Next:   The Warriors entertain Maine East at 5:30 p.m. Jan 5. 

The Bottom Line:      Stitcher gave a solid performance for Deerfield against the powerhouse Scouts who returned all but one gymnast from last year’s state runner up.
