Jonah Hirsch Wins Shepard Spelling Bee

Eighth grader wins in 20th round.

eighth grader Jonah Hirsch correctly spelled epithet Thursday to become his school’s spelling champion. 

Hirsch won the Spelling Bee in the 20th round in what turned out to be a two-day competition with over 250 words spelled by Shepard students. Jean Kim finished second. Hirsch will now compete in the Regional Spelling Bee Feb. 22 at . 

The event was organized by Literacy Coach Bonni Solomon. The judges were Principal Michael Shapiro, Karen Davis and Susan Grinnel.

On Wednesday,  fifth grader Elana Charlson won her school’s Spelling Bee with fourth grader Matthew Seltzer second and Lexie Kolson, another fourth grader, third

 and South Park hold their competition next week.
