jumped into the lead in Patch Athlete of the Week voting Thursday with a 5,004 vote edge over Loyola Academy basketball player Kathleen Stralka.
As of 6 p.m. Thursday, Katz had 24,586 of the 56,847 votes cast while Stralka, who held a commanding lead two days ago, was second with 19,582. Jewell Lloyd, a University of Notre Dame bound basketball player from Niles West, was third with 11,987.
Katz, who placed third in the State Track Meet last year in the triple jump, could be the seventh Deerfield athlete to take the award since November in the 10-site north suburban Patch Region.

State diving champion won in November followed in December by basketball player and wrestler .
This year basketball player , wrestler and gymnast have won as well. Though Stitcher won as a gymnast, she was a top 20 diver in the State Meet in November and hopes to qualify for State in the pole vault in May.
