Kipling, Walden Students Moved Friday in 'Cooling Plan'

The high heat means students in those two schools will be moved to other buildings in the afternoon.

Because of the high heats expected Friday, Deerfield students at Kipling and Walden schools will spend part of their day in other buildings that have air conditioning.

Below is the full press release from the district about the changes:

Our Cool Heat Plan for
Tomorrow, Friday, August 30, 2013! All schools remain open as planned!

Dear District 109 Families,

We have been monitoring the weather all week, as you know, and tomorrow's forecast calls for temperatures within Kipling and Walden schools that are triggering this cool heat plan action for tomorrow. Tomorrow afternoon, at about 12:40pm, buses will arrive at Kipling and Walden to transport students to the schools with air conditioning. The plan is as follows:

  • Kipling kindergarten students will walk to the District Center with their teachers
  • Kipling students in 1st and 2nd grade will go to South Park
  • Kipling students 3rd and 4th grade will go to Shepard
  • Walden students in 1st and 2nd grade will move to Wilmot
  • Walden students in 3rd and 4th grade will move to Caruso

Students in kindergarten and 5th grade at Walden, and 5th grade Kipling students will remain at their schools and their classes will move to air conditioned spaces within the schools. The principals and assistant principals will move to the other schools with the students, and district administrative staff will be on site and on call for Walden and Kipling. After Tuesday's experience, we have polled staff and interacted with parents. This is a creative solution - the best solution will be next year when our air quality projects are complete.

Kipling and Walden principals will communicate about your child’s classroom’s specific experiences. We are working to provide as “normal” and routine an educational experience as possible. Thank you all for your professionalism, flexibility, and support!

We know that our host schools enjoyed welcoming their neighbors into their buildings and staff in all of the buildings and the District Center are working together to ensure that learning continues for all students. Our aim is to ensure that staff and students are safe, comfortable and productive! We will keep the community informed about any changes in our regular schedule.

All Walden and Kipling students will be back on site for afternoon pick up.

For safety: NO students may be picked up at any other school other than their own school!

Remember - this is for TOMORROW, Friday, August 30, 2013
