Rally Planned Before District 109 Meeting

Group showing support for teachers in ongoing contract negotiations plans demonstration Monday.

A demonstration showing support of is planned at 6:15 p.m. Monday before the regularly scheduled 7 p.m. meeting of the District 109 School Board at . 

December’s meeting was moved from the District office to Shepard to accommodate the large crowd that came for a similar demonstration. about the ongoing negotiations between District 109 and the Deerfield Education Association teachers’ union. 

District 109 teachers have been working on an expired contract. Negotiations between the union and District 109 continue with the help of a federal mediator. The next mediation session is Jan. 12. The last meeting with the intermediary was Dec. 14.

“We want to continue to keep people informed as the union continues to work to reach a reasonable contract,” union President said. 

District 109 School Board President looks forward to seeing citizens at meetings. “Anyone who wants to come to our meetings is welcome to come to our meetings,” she said.

Though London agrees with Jenson a fair contract is the Board’s goal, she has continually been unwilling to discuss the content of the negotiations publically.
