Rosin, DHS Jazz Band Sweep Competition

Deerfield High School jazz band and soloist Joey Rosin take first place among musicians from five states.

Deerfield High School’s jazz band and soloist Joey Rosin showed they were chosen best prep jazz musicians in the Midwest with their performances at the Meadows Festival Feb. 23 in Rolling Meadows.

The school band tied for first among small combos with Webster Groves High School from a St. Louis suburb with a score of 91.67 out of a possible 100.

One of the tunes the group played was “Verlaine,” composed by Rosin, along with their own arrangements of “This I Dig of You” and the gospel jazz tune, “Greens at the Chicken Shack.” Rosin played his saxophone into the top soloist award.

Other members of the band are Jordan Barhydt, Alex Behn, Tom Bonadies, Colin Davis, Suzanne Feinstein, Nick Gleason, Eric Guberman, Adam Kleiman, Alex Schopa, Mitchell Steindler, Gordy Tcath, Nate Weiskirch, Izzy Yellen, and Chet Zenor.
