Shepard Graduates 171 Students

Former eighth graders are now high school freshmen.

culminated its year-long 50th anniversary celebration by promoting its eighth graders into high school Tuesday in the  auditorium.

Though this annual event is commonly called a graduation from eighth grade it is actually a promotion to high school, according to  Communication Director Cathy Kedjidjian.

The students marched into the auditorium to start the evening before eighth grader Devin Pohn gave the commencement address. Pohn and five other students earned awards.

and Olivia Westrich were gtiven the outstanding student award. Melissa Dolins and Zachary Frischer won the Daughters of the American Revolution Award. The American Legion Award went to Carly Frisone and Pohn. Frisone also earned the Deerfield Education Association Eighth Grade Scholarship. Jared Boss and Matthew Rivlin received awards for their work on the Student Council and fundraising.

Deerfield faculty members Michelle Brownell and David Hirsch accepted the promoted class into the high school. The newly minted freshmen received their diplomas from District 109 School Board member Deborah Muller.
