Deerfield High School girls' basketball team falls to Blue Devils while swimmers lose before Glenbrook South.

Boys’ Basketball

The Final Score:        Deerfield 58, Maine East 40

 Warriors Star Performers:    Tony Shapiro scored 16 points on 75 percent shooting from the field as well as four rebounds and a steal. Alexander Glantz added 12 points making 80 percent of his shots along with three rebounds, an assist and a blocked shot.

Other Notable Warrior Performances:       Michael Alfieri chipped in 10 points along with nine rebounds, four assists and a pair of blocked shots. Eric Porter contributed nine tallies grabbed six rebounds and dished out four assists.

Who’s Next:   The Warriors entertain District 113 rival Highland Park at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. 

The Bottom Line:      Accurate shooting and a strong second half made the difference for the Warriors. After coaxing a 27-24 lead into the intermission, Deerfield broke the game open by outpointing Maine East 17-8 in the third quarter for a 44-32 edge at the end of three periods. The Warriors continued to dominate in the final stanza with 14 tallies to the Blue Devils eight. Deerfield is now 5-4 for the season and 1-2 in the Central Suburban League North Division. 

Girls’ Basketball

The Final Score:         Maine East 46, Deerfield 41

Warriors Star Performer:    Haley Greer popped in 12 points, hauled down five rebounds, dished out two assists and stole the ball once. Margot Sylvan added 10 tallies and had a steal

Other Notable Warrior Performances:       Jesse Bess contributed five points, three rebounds, a pair of assists and a steal while Sarah Ginn added four points, four rebounds, two assists and a steal. Liz Pavalon grabbed six rebounds as well as adding an assist and a steal

Who’s Next:   The Warriors travel to District 113 rival Highland Park at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. 

The Bottom Line:      A fourth quarter rally fell short as Deerfield dropped its first Central Suburban League North Division contest of the season. The team is now 3-1 in conference play and 5-6 overall. The Warriors took an 8-6 lead at the end of the first quarter but were outscored by Maine East, 16-10, in the second period to trail 22-18 at halftime. The Blue Devils padded their advantage by five points in the third period before the Warriors whittled it down in the final quarter.

Swimming

The Final Score:         Glenbrook South 105, Deerfield 80

Warriors Star Performer:    Sean Scarry won the diving competition (230.8) and Evan Fischoff took the 100-yard breast stroke (1:09.41) while the quartet of Ryan Smith, Daniel Perlovsky, Nate Block and Alec Barry finished first in the 200 medley relay (1:46.91).

Other Notable Warrior Performances:       Smith also placed second in the 500 freestyle (5:29.93) and third in the 100 backstroke (58.34). Deerfield’s other double individual scorer was Joey Barr with third place in the 200 freestyle (1:55.36) and the 100 freestyle (52.98). Other second place finishers were Perlovsky in the 200 individual medley (2:10.87), Church in diving (230.15) and Alex Howard in the 50 freestyle (23.75). Also placing third were Barry in the 50 freestyle (23.87), Patrick Abrahams in the 100 butterfly (1:00.46) and Benji Perez in the 500 freestyle (5:31.63).
