Sports Digest: Four DHS Tennis Players Head to State Meet

Gold take second in CSL boys' cross country meet while Osborn takes fifth for girls. Swimmers earn third at Titan Relays.

Warriors’ Star Performers:             Mindy Borovsky and Ariel Lozovsky qualified for the State Tournament in singles while the tandem of Jenna Borzak and Jorrie Fox made it in doubles.

Who’s Next:   Borovsky, Lozovsky, Borzak and Fox compete in the State Finals Thursday through Saturday in Buffalo Grove.

The Bottom Line:      Borovsky breezed through her first three matches in straight sets losing only three games before falling in the final for second place. Lozovsky took third winning her first two matches, dropping her semifinal contest and taking the consolation final. Borzak and Fox ended up fourth in doubles. 

Boys’ Cross Country 

Oct. 13 

The Final Score:  1. Niles North39, 2. Highland Park 46, 3. Deerfield 47, 4. Glenbrook North 118, 5. Maine West 133, 6. Maine East 135. 

Warriors’ Star Performers:             Alex Gold finished second in 15:49.89, while Jordan Abosch was sixth (16:03.56) and Shai Farhi took eighth (16:15.13).

Other Notable Warrior Performances:       Bryan Rosenberg added 14th place points to the Deerfield total (16:50.57) and Maor Kramer was 17th (16:55.89).

Who’s Next:   The Warriors compete in the Antioch Regional at 11 a.m. Saturday. 

Girls’ Cross Country 

Oct. 13 

The Final Score:  1. Glenbrook North 25, 2. Highland Park 53, 3. Deerfield 63, 4. Maine East 113, 5. Niles North 134, 6. Maine West 151. 

Warriors’ Star Performers:             Abbey Osborn captured fifth in a time of 19:56.70 while Jordyn Jensen was sixth (20:09.08).

Other Notable Warrior Performances:       Lauren Klein placed 15th (211:24.50) with Ellen Kerschke 16th (21:36.32) and Elizabeth Zwart 21st (21.52.42).

Who’s Next:   The Warriors compete in the Antioch Regional at 10 a.m. Saturday. 

Swimming 

Oct. 13 

The Final Score:  1. Glenbrook South 243, 2. Loyola Academy 221, 3. Deerfield 171, 4. Hinsdale South, 5. Niles West and Addison Trail 137, 7. Rolling Meadow 104, Lincoln Way Wet 87. 

Warriors’ Star Performer:               The 200-yard backstroke relay team of Ruby Powell, Becca Rosenberg, Marcy Kreda and Sarah Soren finished second.

Other Notable Warrior Performances:       Powell joined Maddie Wilson, Lily Booker and Jen Lubelchek to take third in the 200 backstroke relay. Rosenberg teamed up with Lynn Mallory, Grace Frankel and Haley Seldin to finish third in the 200 breaststroke relay. The 200 medley relay team of Powell, Rosenberg, Lauren Kruzyldo and Mallory was also third.

Who’s Next:   The Warriors entertain Maine West at 5 p.m. Friday and then compete in the Naperville Invitational at 9 a.m. Saturday. 

Oct. 12 

The Final Score:  Deerfield 102, Maine East 74 

Warriors’ Star Performer:               Lauren Kurzyldo won the 200-yard individual medley, the 500 freestyle and joined with Ruby Powell, Lynn Mallory and Maddie Wilson to win the 200 freestyle relay.

Other Notable Warrior Performances:       Powell took the 100 freestyle, Mallory won the 50 freestyle, Lily Booker finished first in the 200 freestyle and Marcy Kreda was victorious in the 100 butterfly. Booker and Kreda joined Emily Hansen and Becca Rosenberg to win the 200 medley relay.
