Stitcher Shows Promise at State

Warrior gymnast builds on experience for next season.

Deerfield High School gymnast Christine Stitcher may not have met her goals at the State Meet Friday in Palatine, but she and Coach Carol Myers are already plotting a course for next year for the Warrior junior.

Stitcher fell a bit short of her expectations. After an impressive showing at the sectionals where she was able to qualify for the all-around at the State Finals, Stitcher experienced a couple of falls to finish tied for 26th with a 35.525.

“She had a little trouble out there,” Myers said. “But I thought she did a real nice routine in her floor. Christine didn’t do a pass she wanted to do, but she was smart enough at the last pass to add a flip-flop to add her bonus in. She didn’t get the score I thought she could get.”

A floor score of 9.175 landed Stitcher in 20th place in the individual event while she was 32nd in the uneven parallel bars with an 8.425.

With a 9.35 vault score during her all around competition, Stitcher showed even more promise for next season. “But we are both looking forward to next year. With her experience, she should do even better,” Myers said.
