Three Warriors Look Strong at State Track Meet

Katy McIntyre, Devon Gold and Christine Stitcher give solid performances at State Finals.

gave solid performances for the Deerfield High School girls’ track team at the State Track Meet Friday at Eastern Illinois University.

Though none made Saturday’s finals, all three did “very well for themselves,” according to Coach Jeff Beaumont. McIntyre participated in both the discus and shot put while Gold competed in the triple jump and .

McIntyre earned the right to say she is among the 25 best in Illinois in both events, according to Beaumont. She also kept very busy Friday. After throwing the shot 37-1, McIntyre had little time to rest before the discus.

“She had to rush right over to the disc ring and jump right into that competition,” Beaumont said wishing she had more time to rest between events. “It would have been nice for her to get more transition and warm-up time.” She threw 96-10.

Stitcher, who competed in her third state meet this year—she qualified in diving in the fall and gymnastics in the winter—attained her personal goal of a best ever vault, clearing 10-6. A junior, she hopes to medal next year.

“We were all very happy with (her performance) under the pressure of the State Meet,” Beaumont said. “As our lone junior at State this year, she was already thinking about getting back next year and finishing as a medalist. I will not put anything past her.”

Gold jumped 36-1, just an inch shy of her personal best. “I was very pleased with her efforts at state and for the whole season,” Beaumont said.
