Update: Bess Trails in Athlete of the Week Voting

Deerfield High School wrestler Artie Bess, who starred in the State Meet a week ago for the Warriors, is making a strong bid to become Patch’s Athlete of the Week.

After taking the third place medal Saturday in the 220-pound weight class, Bess was one of five area athletes nominated. As of midnight today, he has 1,244 of the 3,040 votes cast but trails Loyola Academy basketball player Lauren Kriz, who has 1,526.

Bess finished his four-year varsity career with a 40-2 record this season and the third place finish at State. He was also an outside linebacker for the Warrior football team and will now get ready for the lacrosse season.

Voters can continue to cast ballots through midnight Saturday.
