Vote for Deerfield’s Athlete of the Year

Boys' basketball team, Allie Boudreau, Joey Calistri, Erin Purdy and Christine Stitcher are the nominees.

After a , Patch readers have chosen the five finalists for Deerfield’s athlete of the year. Readers will now have the rest of the year to vote for their choice. 

The winner will be published in a story Jan. 2. The ballot is at the end of the story. The choices are: 

Led by Sam Sternberg, Jack Carney, and Josh Schur, the Warriors won their second straight Regional title. Sternberg, Carney and Schur made the difference after the 2009-2010 squad lost eight seniors. Sternberg led the team in rebounds and assists; Carney was high scorer for the season with Schur second. Schur also topped the Warriors in steals and blocks.

. She almost singlehandedly won the Central Suburban Conference North Division track and field championship for Deerfield scoring 40 points by herself. Boudreau won the 100-meter dash, the 100 hurdles, the 200 sprint and the 300 hurdles. She now competes for Illinois Wesleyan. 

. He was a four-year standout for the Warrior soccer team and a goal scoring machine. Calistri led the Warriors to the Sectional final before the team bowed out of this year’s post season. He holds Deerfield’s single season record of 37 goals including a three-goal hat trick in the Sectional semi final against Grasylake Central.

. Purdy won the Illinois State diving championship in November to provide the only state crown in Deerfield this year. Her performance at the State Meet was dominant. She was not the highest qualifier, but jumped ahead the first day of competition in the State Finals and kept building her lead with each dive. 

. A three sport all Central Suburban League selection—track, diving and gymnastics—Stitcher competed in the state meet in both diving and gymnastics finishing in the top 20 in both. She was a two-sport league champion in vault (gymnastics) and hurdles (track). Her name appears on the top 10 all time Deerfield performances in all three sports.
