Update: Warrior Girls Join Boys in Hoop Victory

Deerfield High School boys' and girls' basketball teams defeat Waukegan.

The Final Score:        Deerfield 46, Waukegan 34

Warriors Star Performer:    Freshman Margot Sylvan poured in 19 points including three for six from three point range. She also stole the ball three times and took down a pair of rebounds.

Other Notable Warrior Performances:       Another freshman, Haley Greer, added nine points, got three rebounds, dished out two assists and stole the ball three times. Elizabeth Pavalon hauled in 11 rebounds while Sarah Ginn chipped in seven points, four rebounds and a steal.

Who’s Next:   The Warriors travel to Niles North at 7:30 p.m. Friday in Skokie. 

The Bottom Line:      Trailing by a point at the end of the first quarter, the Warriors outscored Waukegan 8-1 in the second period to take a 15-9 lead into intermission. Deerfield exploded for 20 points in the third quarter to take a 35-20 advantage heading into the fourth period coasting to the victory. Deerfield is now 2-4 for the season. 

Boys’ Basketball

The Final Score:        Deerfield 64, Waukegan 56 

Warriors Star Performer:    Michael Alfieri scored 16 points and grabbed eight rebounds.

Other Notable Warrior Performances:       Eric Porter contributed in 16 points. Alexander Glantz added 11 tallies while dishing off four assists.

Who’s Next:   The Warriors travel to Maine West at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. 

The Bottom Line:      Waukegan led by as much as 10 points in the first half before the Warriors trimmed the deficit to 28-23 at halftime. Deerfield kept chipping away at the lead, went ahead in the third quarter and led at the end of three periods, 42-37. The Bulldogs got no closer than three points the rest of the way as the Warriors elevated their season record to 3-2.
