Warrior Boys Win CSL Track Title

Katz takes four individual titles. Girls' soccer and baseball teams also win.

March 16 

Boys’ Track 

The Final Score:       , 2. Highland Park 117.5, 3. Niles North 94, 4. Maine West 61, 5. Maine East 43, Glenbrook North 42.

Warriors Star Performers:  won the 200-meter dash with a 23.72 school indoor record as well as winning the long jump (21-9), the 55 high hurdles (7.5) and the 55 low hurdles (7.4). was the pole vault champion (12-0).

Other Notable Warrior Performances:       The 4x800 relay team of Tristan Nunez, Patrick Brunk, Jordon Abosch and Jack Umlauf placed third while the 4x1 lap quartet of Middlebrook, Geoff Heiser, Brett Freedberg and Luke Williams was third as well. Deerfield made it third in all relays as Freedberg, Williams and Nunez joined Makoto Bowering in the 4x400 event. Third place honors were also earned by Graham Johnson in the 55 high hurdles and 55 low hurdles, Alex Gold in the 3,200, Bowering in the 800, Austin Jones in the high jump, Tyler Vajdic in the pole vault and Williams in the triple jump.

Who’s Next:   The Warriors open the outdoor season at 4:45 p.m. April 4 at the Grant Invitational at Fox Lake. 

The Bottom Line:      Katz scored 40 of Deerfield’s 129.5 points with his four victories. With the emphasis now on the outdoor season, the Warriors are now focused on dethroning seven-time league champion Niles North, according to Coach Jeremy Kauffman. 

Girls’ Soccer 

March 16 

The Final Score:        Deerfield 1, Vernon Hills 0. 

Warriors Star Performers:  scored Deerfield lone goal to provide the margin of victory.

Other Notable Warrior Performances:       Samara Haas chipped in with an assist on Just’s goal while goalie Bailey Bradford had four saves in her first career shutout.

Who’s Next:   The Warriors entertain Glenbrook South at 2 p.m. today at Adams Field. 

The Bottom Line:      With six Warriors out of the lineup with injuries or other commitments, a number of Warriors including Bella Losacco, Claire Mulert, Kelly Glass, Amanda Kellow, Trishie Schweinfufrth, Jill Noey and Savannah Stanaszek filled the void with “valuable minutes” according to Coach Rich Grady. Deerfield is now 2-0 for the season. 

March 15 

Baseball 

The Final Score:        Deerfield 9, Zion Benton 1. 

Warriors Star Performers:  smacked a three-run homer.

Other Notable Warrior Performances:       Ryan Adkins drove in two runs with one hit in his lone official at bat; Xander Horwitz was 1 – for – 1 while driving in a run and Eli Berlin was 1 – for – 2 with a double. Max Mazzetta was the winning pitcher in the starting role.

Who’s Next:   The Warriors entertain Libertyville at 4:30 p.m. Monday. 

The Bottom Line:      After Zion Benton took a 1-0 lead, Deerfield exploded for five runs in the bottom of the third fueled by Browdy’s home run to take control. The Warriors are 1-0 for the season.
