Warrior Gymnasts Take 7th on Big Stage

Spinello twins lead Deerfield High School gymnastics team to seventh place out of 18 teams at Niles West invitational.

Competing against 18 other teams including some of the state’s top competition, the Deerfield High School gymnastics team placed seventh behind strong all around performances of Brian and Jeff Spinello Saturday at the Niles West Invitational.

Warriors Star Performers:              Brian Spinello placed seventh in the all around competition with 39.85 points while twin brother Jeff Spinello was 10th with 39.1. Brian also won the floor exercise (9.5), was seventh in the parallel bars (8.1) and 15th in the vault (8.65). Jeff Spinello added an eighth on floor (8.55).

Other Notable Warrior Performances:       Alex Cimaglia grabbed 13th in the all around competition with 34.5 points as well as a third on the parallel bars (8.6). Heath Ogawa’s 31.5 points earned him 17th in the all around standings. 

Who’s Next:   The Warriors go against Niles North at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the Highland Park gym. 

Boys’ Lacrosse 

The Final Score:        Deerfield 3, Oak Park-River Forest 2; Deerfield 2, Evanston 2; St. Ignatius 6, Deerfield 2.

Who’s Next:   The Warriors entertain Evanston at 7 p.m. Thursday.
