Warrior Swimmers Second at Invite

Ewing continues to lead Deerfield. Team falls to Niles North in dual meet.

Jan. 21 

The Final Score:  1. Conant High 409, 3. Jacobs 282, 4. Wheeling 5. Hersey 222, 6. Saint Viator 218. 

Warriors’ Star Performers:             won the 200-yard individual medley (2:01.75) and the 100 backstroke (55.38) while Ryan Church took the diving competition (212.25). Ewing joined Daniel Perlovsky, Mark Stern and Sean Scopelliti to propel Deerfield to third in the 200 medley relay (1:48.13) and teamed with the quartet of Scopelliti, Alec Barry and Nate Block for fifth in the 400 freestyle relay (3:38.02).

Other Notable Warrior Performances:       Chris Roberts placed fourth in the 50 freestyle (23.55) and the 100 breaststroke (1:06.76). He also worked with Block, Scopelliti and Stern for fourth place in the 200 freestyle relay (1:39.38). Stern grabbed fourth in the 100 butterfly (57.63) while Perlovsky earned fourth in the 200 individual medley (2:16.53). 

The Bottom Line:      Solid individual performances by Ewing and Roberts helped the Warriors take runner up honors.

The Final Score:  Niles North 138, Deerfield 48 

Warriors’ Star Performer:               Ryan Church won the diving competition with 182.4 points.

Other Notable Warrior Performances:       Kevin Ewing took second in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:04.97) and third in the 100 butterfly (54.83). Chris Roberts earned third in the 200 individual medley (2:10.54) while Jon Bromberg did the same in diving (167.9). Ewing and Roberts joined Joey Barr and Alec Barry to grab second in the 200 freestyle relay (1:35.35). Matt Howard teamed with Ewing, Roberts and Barr for a second place finish in the 400 freestyle relay (3:32.33). 

Who’s Next:   The Warriors swim against Highland Park at 5 p.m. Friday in the Deerfield pool. 

The Bottom Line:      Ewing, the Warriors very versatile swimmer, swam breaststroke and butterfly rather than freestyle or individual medley against the Vikings and produced his best breaststroke time with the second place finish.
