Warrior Teams Produce Two Wins

Baseball squad and volleyballers top Maine East.

Baseball 

The Final Score:        Deerfield 6, Maine East 0

Warriors Star Performer:    Jack Silberman struck out five and walked only one throwing 5 2/3 innings of shutout baseball for the victory.

Other Notable Warrior Performances:       Doubles by Brad Holway and Ben Browdy drove five runs across the plate in the sixth inning.

Who’s Next:   The Warriors travel to New Trier at 4:30 p.m. today. 

The Bottom Line:      With the game scoreless in the bottom of the fifth inning, Matt Kollada drove in what proved to be Deerfield’s winning run when he made contact with for an infield out. In the sixth, the Warriors gave themselves insurance when Holway doubled home a pair of runs and Browdy cleared the loaded bases with another double. 

Volleyball 

The Final Score:        Deerfield defeated Maine East 25-20, 25-22. 

Warriors Star Performers:  Andrew Hector had seven kills and a pair of blocks while Scott Laner chipped in 12 assists and five digs. John Harlan and Adam Nadler both notched six kills and two digs. Harlan added two aces and Nadler a block. Jordan Fine contributed 11 assists, four digs and an ace. Matthew Dlugie added to the Deerfield total with six kills as well.

Other Notable Warrior Performances:       Kenison Ready gave Deerfield five kills, a block and two digs while Ross Lehrman had seven digs. Jacob Brody chipped in a pair of aces and a dig.

Who’s Next:   The Warriors travel to Glenbrook North at 6 p.m. Thursday. 

The Bottom Line:      Deerfield has won six of its last eight matches. The team is “finally starting to hit their stride,” Coach Eugene Chang said. “We had a balanced attack and solid defense to win.”
