Warrior Wrestlers Dominate Antioch Invitational

Deerfield High School girls’ basketball team falls to Evanston.

The Final Score:        1. Deerfield 328.5, 2. Antioch 258, 3. Hersey 234, 4. Aurora West 229.5, 5. Grayslake Central 175. 

Warriors Star Performers:  J.J. Nawrot (Heavyweight), Chase Hanua (182), Ari Sapinsley (152), Brian McCann (145), Brian Spinello (126) and Andrew Mehrholz were individual champions. 

Other Notable Warrior Performances:       Patrick Johnson (220), Jim Kirby (195), Thom Bonadies (160), Brady Glantz (138) and Jordan Lieberman earned runner up honors while third place finishes went to Colton Emmerich (170), Jeff Spinello (132) and Joey Bloom (120).

Who’s Next:   The Warriors entertain Grant at 5:30 p.m. Thursday. 

The Bottom Line:      Sapinsley recorded the most pins in the quickest time with seven in nine minutes. In opening round action Friday, Deerfield won all five of its dual meets defeating Hersey (62-4), Antioch Junior Varsity (84-0), Indian Trail of Kenosha (73-3), St. Joseph of Kenosha 82-0 and Rich East 81-0.

The Final Score:        Evanston 57, Deerfield 30 

Warriors Star Performers:  Maeve Derring and Haley Greer scored six points each. 

Other Notable Warrior Performances:       Jessi Bess added five tallies.

Who’s Next:   The Warriors travel to Waukegan at 7:30 p.m. Thursday. 

The Bottom Line:      Evanston dominated the game throughout leading 33-12 at halftime. The Warriors are 1-4 for the season.
