Warrior Wrestlers Open Season Wednesday

Deerfield High School wrestling team hopes for fifth straight league title.

Last Year’s Record:              The Warriors were 24-2 in dual meet competition and 5-0 in the Central Suburban League North Division winning the league title for the fourth year in a row.   

Top Returning Warriors:     J.J. Nawrot, Jim Kirby, Colton Emmerich, Brian McCann and Jordan Lieberman. 

Leading Newcomers:            Andrew Mehrholz, Joey Bloom, Alex Cimaglia, Brian Spinello, Jeff Spinello, Alex Acosta, Brady Glantz, Art Sapinsley, Tom     Bonadies, Chase Hanusa, Patrick Johnson and Louis Levine.

Season Opener:                     Deerfield opens the season at 5:30 p.m. today in a quadrangular meet against Fenton, Maine West and Palatine in Palatine. 

Season Outlook:                    Led by defending conference champion Nawrot, the Warriors return some solid talent from last season as well as some top newcomers giving Coach Marc Pechter hopes of a fifth straight league title. “We will definitely have a young, but talented varsity team,” Pechter said. “We do have a good mix of juniors and seniors. We worked hard on the off-season and have a very talented freshmen class.”
