” Deerfield Coach Steve Winiecki said. “We haven’t done that yet. We want to keep it simple and stay within ourselves.”

Winiecki has been happy with the team’s practice this week despite no workout Wednesday. School was closed and there were no activities because of the Jewish holiday of Yom Kippur.

“We’ve had a good week,” Winiecki said. “We practiced at 6 a.m. Tuesday under the lights,” he added explaining how the team maximized its practice time this week. It was a change of pace.”

One bright spot for Deerfield against Glenbrook North Sept. 21 was the play of junior Benjamin Ethridge. He was inserted into the lineup at quarterback in the second quarter engineering the Warriors first scoring drive.

Winiecki has made no decision how much time either Ethridge or starting quarterback Matt Kollada will get tonight. “We’ll see how the game goes,” he said.

With the excitement of homecoming, Winiecki is also giving some extra effort keeping the team’s concentration at an appropriate level. “It’s a great thing for the school and the community,” he said of homecoming. “My job is keeping them focused on Maine West.”
