Warriors Make Winning Weekend Showings

Soccer team takes two of three, tennis squad places fourth at own invitational while boys' tracksters finish fifth at county meet.

Warriors Star Performers:   Samara Haas scored two goals and an assist. Trishie Schweinfurth tallied pair of goals while Haley Greer chipped in with two assists. 

Other Notable Warrior Performances:       Amanda Imyak, Maddy Otto and Jesse Holloway added a goal each to the team’s performance while Rachel Magnus had an assist. Sam Soloway had three saves for a shutout against University while Sarah Ginn and Sari Eisen combined for the shutout with two saves against Resurrection.

Who’s Next:   The Warriors will compete at 4:45 p.m. Tuesday at the field of a team to be determined from the Central Suburban League South Division. 

The Bottom Line:      Deerfield won two of its three games in the Glenbrook Cup Saturday. After dropping the opener to Willows, 1-0, the Warriors bounced back when Haas scored in the 10th minute against Resurrection and the Warriors did not trail again all weekend. Deerfield jumped on University High even quicker taking the lead less than a minute into the game. 

Tennis 

The Final Score:        1. New Trier, Lake Forest 60, 3. Stevenson 44, 4. Deerfield 42, 5. Glenbrook North 17, 6. Peoria Richwoods 17, 7. Glenbrook South 13, 8. Highland Park 12. 

Warriors Star Performer:    Toby Ma took fourth place in the singles competition. 

Other Notable Warrior Performances:       Jack Kasbeer finished in the fifth/sixth spot in singles. In doubles, the duo of Tony Crist and Noah Rosenblat took a fifth/sixth in first/second doubles while the tandems of Lee Ratner and Zach Keeshin and Chris Casati and Bryan Rosenberg did the same in third/fourth doubles. Andrew Pekin and George Vanderkloot ended up 13th in first/second doubles. 

Who’s Next:   The Warriors travel to Oak Park River Forest at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Warriors Star Performers:   Alex Gold won the 3,200-meter run and placed third in the 1,600. Donald Middlebrook grabbed second in the pole vault with Brett Freedberg fifth. Middlebrook and Freedberg teamed with Jake Balder and Michael Lee to capture fourth in the 4x100 relay. 

Other Notable Warrior Performances:       Alex Williams finished second in the high jump with Connor Oriott eighth. Chris Douglas added a fifth in the 110 hurdles and Dominick Dibenedetto did the same in the shot put. Charlie Kogan was eighth in the triple jump. 

Who’s Next:   The Warriors compete in the Central Suburban League North Division Meet at 4:30 p.m. Friday at Maine West. 

The Bottom Line:      Deerfield bested expectations by 21 points in the Lake County Meet, according to Coach Jeremy Kauffman. “This is very exciting as it continues to show that at big invites our boys rise to the competition and don’t back away from it,” Kauffman said. “That’s the key to special things coming in the next few weeks.
