Eight is great for the Deerfield High School boys’ track team.
The Warriors defeated Highland Park, 76-50, Saturday on the Giants track for their eighth straight annual victory over their Township High School District 113 rivals.
“This meet is always an example of what is best about high school athletics as both teams simply give their and go at each other at another level,” Deerfield Coach Jeremy Kauffman said. “The boys competed with intensity, passion and guts.”
Alex Gold and Patrick Brunk were the two Warriors who came away from the meet as double winners, once as part of a relay team and again in an individual victory. Gold took the 1,600-meter run while Brunk was victorious at 400. They also joined with Shai Farhi and Jordan Abosch to take the 4x800 relay.
The quartet of Brett Freedberg, Sam Levin, Sam Rock and Connor Oriot won the 4x1 lap relay. Other winners for Deerfield were Dominick Dibenedetto (shot put), Oriot (long jump), Matt Gibson (pole vault) and Matt Pigott (triple jump).
