Warriors Win 4th Straight Spartan Relays

Volleyball and soccer teams also earn victories.

April 27 

Boys’ Track

Warriors Star Performers:  was part of four winning relay teams; Adam Rabushka participated on three while Luke Williams, Austin Jones, David Leupke and Justin Manuel were part of two. Katz and Rabushka joined Graham Johnson and Chris Douglas to win the 110-meter high hurdle shuttle event. Katz, Rabushka and Johnson then teamed with Williams to win the 110 low hurdle event. In the field events, Katz, Williams and Jones won the triple jump event with Tyler Pohn. Steven Shaltiel and Connor Oriot paired with Katz and Jones to take the long jump effort. Rabushka’s third gold medal came with Shai Farhi, Makoto Bowering and Alex Gold in the distance medley relay. Leupke and Manuel got together with Greg Brown and Casey Spiwak to take the discus. They then teamed with Artie Bess and David Mospan to capture the throwers 4x100 relay.

Other Notable Warrior Performances:       Second place finishes went to the quartet of Geoff Heiser, Brett Freedberg, Donald Middlebrook and Tristan Nunez in middle distance relay as well as the squad of Tyler Vajdic, Middlebrook, Freedberg and Aaron Horwitz in the pole vault. Earning third place points for Deerfield were the sprint medley relay team of Oriot, Ryan Gersowsky, Shaltiel and Eric Hernandez, the 4x400 quartet of Nunez, Bowering, Williams and Rabushka along with the shot put contingent of Bess, Mospan, Manuel and Dominic Dibenedetto.

Who’s Next:   The Warriors host the Lake County Invitational at 4 p.m. Friday. 

The Bottom Line:      The Warriors dominated the meet easily outpointing runner up Glenbrook South to take the event for the fourth year in a row making it a clean sweep for the seniors on the team.  “The boys were hungry, focused and had great energy from the first event to the last,” Coach Jeremy Kaufman said. 

Volleyball 

The Final Score:        Deerfield defeated Waukegan, 25-21 and 25-10. 

Warriors Star Performers:  Andrew Hector scored 10 kills and three blocks. Scott Laner handed out 17 assists.

Other Notable Warrior Performances:       Kenison Ready contributed six kills and a block while John Harlan chipped in four kills. Adam Nadler, Andrew Devendorn and Matthew Dlugie killed three shots and Grayson Peacock added a pair. Ross Lehrman chipped in 12 digs.

Who’s Next:   The Warriors entertain Maine East at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

The Bottom Line:      The victory over Waukegan was the Warriors fifth in their last seven matches. “We we are finally back to full health and starting to find our groove, Coach Eugene Chung said. “The guys are playing a lot better on the defensive side of things.” 

Soccer 

The Final Score:        Deerfield 2, Warren 1. 

Warriors Star Performers:  JoElla Guagliardo and Amanda Kellow scored Deerfield’s goals.

Who’s Next:   The Warriors entertain Highland Park at 7 p.m. Tuesday in a game that will determine the Central Suburban League North Division title.

Bottom Line:  The victory improved Deerfield’s record to 7-3-7 for the season and extended their undefeated streak to six.

April 26 

Boys’ Lacrosse 

The Final Score:        Glenbrook South 10, Deerfield 3. 

Who’s Next:   The Warriors travel to Maine South at 7 p.m. Friday.
