Warriors Win Track Invitational

Boys' volleyball, tennis and baseball teams all win. Gymnastics squad places seventh of 16 teams.

Boys’ Track 

The Final Score:        , 2. Grant 123.5, 3. Warren 105, 4-7. Carmel, Crystal Lake South, Vernon Hills, Zion-Benton.

Warriors Star Performers:  won the long and triple jump while placing second in the 110-meter high hurdles and the 300 intermediate hurdles. Donald Middlebrook finished first in the 400 while Tristan Nunez took the 800.

Other Notable Warrior Performances:       Other second place finishes went to Makoto Bowering (800), Alex Gold (3,200), Connor Oriot (long jump) and Greg Brown (discus). The 4x400 relay team of Luke Williams, Bowering, Gold and Nunez grabbed third as did the quartet of Jack Umlauf, Shai Farhi, Jordan Absoch, and Patrick Brunk in the 4x800. Individual third place finishes were earned by Williams (triple jump and 300 intermediate hurdles), Geoff Heiser (100) and Middlebrook (pole vault).

Who’s Next:   The Warriors entertain Glenbrook North and Northside College Prep at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday. 

The Bottom Line:      The Warriors showed team depth winning their own invitational for the third year in a row and the fifth time in the last six years. The event was held at Grant in Fox Lake because of a scheduling conflict. 

Volleyball 

The Final Score:        Deerfield defeated Warren, 15-25, 25-15 and 25-21. 

Warriors Star Performers:  Scott Laner had 23 assists, third aces and eight digs while Kennison Ready notched eight kills and Andrew Hector recorded seven kills and three blocks. John Harlan gave an all around performance with six kills, a pair of blocks, seven digs and an ace.

Other Notable Warrior Performances:       Adam Nadler contributed five kills, a block and five digs while Andrew Devendorf blocked four balls, had two kills and an ace. Ross Lehrman dug 12 balls off the ground.

Who’s Next:   The Warriors entertain Glenbrook North at 6 p.m. Tuesday. 

The Bottom Line:      After dropping the first set to the Blue Devils, Deerfield rallied to win the next two and the match to even their season record at 1-1. 

Tennis 

The Final Score:        Deerfield 6, Barrington 4 

Warriors Star Performers:  , Jack Kasbeer, Noah Rosenblat and Zach Keeshin swept the four singles matches.

Other Notable Warrior Performances:       In doubles the tandems of Jeremy Jacobson and Sam Sylvan along with Nate Klein and Lee Ratner provided wins.

Who’s Next:   The Warriors travel to Glenbrook South at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday. 

The Bottom Line:      Led By Brown’s 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles, the Warriors dominated the singles competition in straight sets. The two doubles victories made the difference to secure the team win. 

Gymnastics 

The Final Score:        Deerfield-Highland Park finished seventh out of 16 teams at the Mundelein Invitational with 125.8 points. 

Warriors Star Performers:  Brian Spinello finished ninth in floor exercise with an 8.8 while Doran Zimmerman did the same in the all around competition with a 41.78. Alex Comaglia posted 8.0 on the parallel bars to place 10th.

Other Notable Warrior Performances:       Kevin Ryan and Jeff Spinello had a good meet though they did not place, according to Coach Doug Foerch.

Who’s Next:   The Warrior-Giants entertain Maine East at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Highland Park gym. 

The Bottom Line:      Deerfield-Highland Park posted its best team score of the season. Foerch believes the team can develop significant improvement before sectionals May 2. 

Baseball 

Final Score:     Deerfield 19, Wauconda 2 (score only)
