Alex Gold Takes Rotary July 4 10K

Abby Osborn wins women's race.

Deerfield High School graduate and University of Illinois bound runner Alex Gold won the Rotary Deerfield Family Days 10K race Thursday finishing ahead of 147 other runners with a time of 33.05.

Abby Osborn was the race’s fastest woman with a 45.46 clocking.

Gold placed three seconds ahead of Stephen Stitcher, who was second in 36.16. Scott Friedlander was third (37.53), Chris Schlax fourth (38.4) and Charles Nash fifth (38.46). Gold also took first place in the Men’s 16-24 division.

Osborn, who also won the girls’ 15 and under class, finished less than a second ahead of Jamie Sheetz (46.27), who took second. Elana Shankar was third (47.14), Erin Kelly fourth (47.14) and Mary Beth O’Donell fifth (47.37).

Alex Wolfe won the boys’ 15 and under division, Schlax was the 25 to 39 men’s age group winner, Jeff Beaumont took the men’s 40 to 49 race, Stuart Barender captured the men’s 50 to 59 bracket and Mike Delaney was the men’s over 60 champ.

In the women’s age group pairings, Sheetz was the top runner in the 16 to 24 bracket, Dana Haley got the top prize in the 25-39 group, Kelly took the 40 to 49 race, O’Donell was the 50 to 59 winner and Gale Luckman took the  over 60 competition.
