Deerfield's Vince India Comes Out Swinging in 64th Illinois Open

The Illinois Open Championship is being held in Glenview this week.

Deerfield golfer Vince India is currently in first place in the Illinois Open Championship's.

The golf tournament is being held this week at The Glen Club in Glenview.

India, a 24-year-old who plays on the PGA Tour Latino America, is a Deerfield High School graduate. He was also the 2011 Big Ten Player of the Year as a senior at Iowa, reported the Deerfield Review.

India finished Tuesday at 7-under 65. He holds a two-stroke lead with a 36-hold score of 137.

At last year's Illinois Open, India finished seventh after a four-year absence, according to the Daily Herald.

Other local golfers include Brad Hopfinger, of Lake Forest, who is in a tie for seventh; Brandon Suzuki, of Bannockburn, who is tied for 19th; and Bennett Lavin, of Deerfield, who is in a group tied for 32nd.

Defending Illinois high school champion Ian Kelsey, of Deerfield, missed the cut by two shots as an amateur competing against a host of professionals.
