Championship Monday will determine the Pony and Bronco League champions for the house league at Jewett Park.
In the Pony League, Notre Dame will meet Illinois at 8 p.m. Monday for the championship while the time of the Bronco title game between the Cubs and the Angels is to be determined.
Illinois earned its ticket to play for the crown with a 14-1 victory over Wisconsin Thursday. A pitcher’s duel between B.J. Eagan of Illinois and Wisconsin’s Jake Leahy kept the game close after the Illini took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first.
In the fifth inning, Illinois took control with 11 runs in the last three innings. Matthew Rosenbaum threw two scoreless frames to close out the victory.
Notre Dame secured its place in the championship contest with an 8-3 semifinal win over Michigan Thursday. Zach Pomerance, Jordan Raye and Ben Charlson combined for the winning performance on the mound while Andrew Gorden, Danny Powers and Jon Kayman threw for Michigan.
The Irish took control with three runs in the first inning on the strength of Brian Ranallo’s home run but Michigan came back to tie the score with help from Max Kerensky’s bat. A triple by Josh Oettinger made the difference for Notre Dame in the final innings.
Notre Dame is coached by Mike Oettinger, Patrick Bouslog and Rob Raye. The other players are Ryan Bluestone, Brent Bouslog, Ben Edelstein, Kevin Healy, Jonah Hirsch and Scott Stern.
Michigan is coached by Bill Gorden, Dan Cohen and David Ruskin. The other players are Shale Mack, Justin Gorden, Jake Solovy, Dylan Ruskin, Will Murphy, Ari Cohen and Dylan Winick.
In the Bronco semifinals, the Angels’ Josh Frydman powered a grand slam home run over the fence to assure a victory over the Astros. In the other semifinal, the Cubs grabbed four runs in the first inning on the way to an 8-6 win over the Cards behind the pitching of Evan Lutz, Hunter Roberts and Jordan Feinberg.
