Fighting Illini Win DYBA Pony League Title

Solid pitching, clutch hitting and defense make the difference.

The Fighting Illini won the Deerfield Youth Baseball and Softball Association Pony League championship with a 10-6 victory over the Fighting Irish Monday at Jewett Park.

B.J. Eagan started the game for Illinois allowing three runs over four innings. Noah Polisner and Ryan Kenyon hurled the last three frames to seal the victory.

Robby Wyatt and Frazier Robbins provided some of the offensive punch for the Illini. Wyatt singled with the bases loaded in the first to drive in a pair of runs. Robbins did the same in the second inning. Solid defensive play by Matthew Rosenbaum helped make a difference.

Jordan Raye, Zach Pomerance and Ben Charlson handled the mound duties for the Fighting Irish. Brian Ranallo’s home run helped the Notre Dame offense.

"This was without question the best game of the season," Pony league Co-President Paul Chanan said. "Nothing like saving the best for last."

The Illini were coached by Gary Polisner, Adam Rosenbaum and Jeff Kenyon. The rest of the players are Marc Noeh, David Greenberg, Andrew Grossman and Davey Bickmore.

The Fighting Irish were coached by Mike Oettinger, Patrick Bouslog and Rob Raye. The remaining players are Ryan Bluestone, Brent Bouslog, Ben Edelstein, Kevin Healy, Jonah Hirsch, Josh Oettinger and Scott Stern.
