Warriors Osborn Grabs 5th in Cross Country Regional

Deerfield High School girls' team and Highland Park High School boys advance to Sectionals.

Highland Park High School boys’ cross country runner Angel Estrada strode to a one-second victory today in the Libertyville Regional leading the Giant team and two Deerfield High School runners into the Schaumburg Sectional next Saturday, according to the Illinois High School Association website.

In the girls’ race, Abbey Osborn’s fifth place finish propelled the Warriors to the fourth spot as the entire team advanced along with two Highland Park athletes. The Giants were eighth as a team.

Estrada covered the three-mile course in 15:39, one second ahead of Stevenson’s Sam Oh. The Giants placed fourth in the team standings to move on to the Sectional as a team while the Warriors placed eighth. The first six teams advance.

Highland Park’s Ben Casey finished 10th with Brett Davidson behind in 13th. Other Giant team members are Jeremy Bloom, Griffen Bojan, Andrew Huddelston and Jonathan Rosenfeld.

For Deerfield in the boys’ race, Maor Kramer earned a trip to the Sectionals with a 26th place finish while Billy Anderson did the same in 30th.

Joining Osborne with a top 30 finish for Deerfield were Jordyn Jensen in 13th, Claudia Giacone in 21st and Hadley Lloyd in 23rd. Other team members are Elayna Shanker, Lauren Klein and Nicole Abramson.

For Highland Park in the girls’ race, Marni Pine place 17th and Mallory Sonenthal was 31st to qualify for the Sectional race.
