Players Wanted: Pick-Up Soccer Comes to Town

Players compete at Brickyards Park every Wednesday.

It's not always easy to find enough people to put together a competetive soccer match, but John Fillman is doing his best to change that in the north Chicago suburbs.

Through the use of a social networking website meetup.com Fillman has managed to recruit over 120 local players to join the North Shore Soccer Club.

"There's a lot of really good, well organized, sponsored organizations that pick up soccer in Chicago and in the northwest suburbs," Fillman said. "But up North there wasn't really anything except formal leagues. So we decided this would be a great opportunity for us to all expand.  It's doing great and I just want to keep it going."

The club puts together teams for indoor leagues in the winter and also hosts activities in areas like Highland Park and Buffalo Grove. But if you're looking for a good game in Deerfield, you can head to every Wednesday night from 7-9 pm. The club generally attracts anywhere from 35-45 players from as far away as Hoffman Estates and Chicago.

"We probably draw from about a 40-50 mile radius," North Shore Club Member Guy Iantoni said. "Guys are just coming out to play pick-up soccer and it's a great time and great skill level. We play for about two hours, have a great time and then go relax and have a couple beers."

There is nothing historical about this house. The historical house was torn down in order to buildRead More a modern house which vaguely resembles the home that was owned by Lyman Wilmot. But calling this new construction "an important part of the history of Deerfield" is a travesty.

Mara, So sorry you feel this way. We feel that this really improves the neighborhood. Tried toRead More keep much of old structure, but Igor's rehab and lack of upkeep, made it impossible. couldn't even keep floors, all warped from water and walls full of mold. City did nothing to stop Igor from combining two distinct properties. I am having a champagne lunch Wed. June 19, 11:30 to 1:30. Would love for you to come and see the house. Maybe that will change your mind. Annette Kalcheim

Annette - my first statement was "beautiful house" so I have no qualms with your outcome -Read More however, this is a re-do, re-creation not the original house. But good luck! I am sure you will find a buyer quickly!
