Porter Sizzles, Warriors Top Glenbrook North

Deerfield High School boys' basketball team rides Eric Porter's shooting to third league win.

Making nearly two thirds of his shots from the field, Deerfield High School guard Eric Porter led the Warriors past visiting Glenbrook North Friday to improve their Central Suburban League North Division record to 3-1.

Porter poured in 21 points including five three pointers on six attempts to lead all scorers. Overall he shot with 63 percent accuracy from the field. When he was not scoring, Porter dished out six assists, grabbed four rebounds and stole the ball once.

Deerfield jumped on the Spartans early taking a 14-2 lead at the end of the first quarter and extending the margin to 25-11 by halftime. Deerfield built its edge to 41-26 by the end of three periods before Glenbrook North narrowed the gap in the final stanza.

Michael Alfieri had a hot hand from the field as well scoring 12 points on 71 percent shooting. He also had a pair of rebounds and blocked a shot.

Both Jack Lieb and Stefanos Fasianos chipped in nine points while Lieb hauled down seven rebounds and blocked two shots. Fasianos had six boards, four assists, a block and a steal. Patrick Burns led the rebounding effort with eight along with four points and an assist.

The Warriors are now 11-4 for the season and all alone in second place in the league standings at 3-1. They return to action at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Maine East.
