Warriors Put Focus on Seniors

Deerfield High School football team deals with injuries as season progresses.

Glenbrook North's football players and coaches were all smiles after Friday's 44-7 win over Deerfield High School while the Warriors will put their focus on the seniors.

The absence of two key players including quarterback Ben Ethridge proved costly on Friday night.

"We're missing a couple people after our last game from injury, our quarterback was out, our slot was out, it was kind of a domino effect,"
Deerfield High School Coach Steve Winiecki said.

The Warrior's Friday loss was significant, which Winiecki said could be improved by more focused playing on the field, and better leadership off the field.

"We didn't tackle very well on defense, we didn't hold onto the ball on offense," he said. "We all, the coaching staff, myself, the kids, we all have to do better."

"You turn the ball over four times and we don't get any turnovers, it's a recipe for a bad result," he added.

Deerfield is now 1-5 this season, and facing Maine West who has the same record, on Friday.

"We're going to focus on the seniors. With five losses, we kind of know what our fate is," Winiecki said. "We're going to coach them up, we're going to get them to play and we're going to get them to play better."
