Stitcher Medals at State Track Meet

Deerfield High School pole vaulter earns eighth place medal in record seventh state meet.

For Christine Stitcher the seventh time was the charm as one of Deerfield High School’s finest athletes in history closed her prep career with a medal in the pole vault at the State Meet today at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston.

Earlier: Stitcher Hopes To Qualify for Three State Meets

A diver, gymnast and pole vaulter, Stitcher had been to six state meets before in those three sports but had yet to earn a medal. Last year she wanted to reach statewide competition three times and this term he wanted a medal. She got it today.

No Warrior has gone to a state meet more times than Stitcher, according to gymnastics Coach Carol Myers. This time she was one of 10 athletes to clear the bar at 11-0 in Friday’s preliminary round to qualify for today’s finals.

Stitcher again went 11-0 to finish in eighth place and earn her first state medal. She was three inches out of seventh. She will continue her athletic career as a diver this fall at the University of Notre Dame.
