Track Team Sectional Champs: Players Make School History

Deerfield track team captures first sectional title since 1977.

The  boys track team knew it had a good team when the season began.

"At the beginning of the year, we made it our goal to win a sectional title," Warriors Head Coach Jeremy Kauffman said.

Mission accomplished. Deerfield won the school's first sectional title since 1977 Friday night at Palatine High School by racking up 73 points, three points better than second place finisher Stevenson.

The Warriors qualified six people for state competition next weekend at Eastern Illinois University.  Leading the way were shot put and discuss throwers and Cody Foerch, who qualified in both events.  Liokumovich set a new personal record and school record in shot with a throw of 62'8" while Foerch set new personal records in both events.

Deerfield also qualified two pole vaulters in the same year for the first time in school history.  finished in second place with a vault of 14'3" while Thomas Schweinfurth cleared 14'0", good enough for a fourth place finish.

Junior Adam Rabushka won sectional titles in both the 100 high hurdles (14.9) and 300 hurdles (39.3).  Junior Danny Katz qualified for state in triple jump (44'5") and finished in second place.
